Sophisticated & Safe Dental Sedation Options
Sedation Dentistry in Oregon CityWhat is Dental Sedation?
Here at Pioneer Dental Group, we want you to be as comfortable as possible during your procedure and we never want dental anxiety to keep you from getting the treatment you need.
Positive dental experiences can help reduce anxiety. Dental anxiety is one of the top reasons that people avoid going to the dentist. But by avoiding the dentist, you run the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental problems – in other words, more pain and more procedures!
We offer mild, moderate and deep sedation for your individual treatment.

Types of Sedation Offered in Our Oregon City Office

MILD SEDATION
If you only have mild anxiety and would just like to take the edge off your treatment experience, we offer nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas.” It is easily administered through a nosepiece and allows you to remain awake and alert while feeling relaxed and calm. You will be awake and able to communicate with the dentist throughout your dental cleaning or treatment. The effects wear off quickly, so you will be able to drive home after the appointment. There are no residual effects from this type of sedation.

MODERATE SEDATION
For our patients who need something stronger than nitrous oxide, we provide oral conscious sedation. Commonly prescribed anti-anxiety pills will be taken before your dental appointment and once taken will cause drowsiness, so you will need someone to bring you to your appointment and take you home. You will be awake and able to respond to questions and instructions. Under this type of sedation, some patients do not remember their dental procedures.

DEEP SEDATION
Here at Pioneer Dental Group, Dr. Clow is trained to administer and monitor anti-anxiety medication intravenously. The results are fast-acting and you will not feel anything during your treatment. Even though you will experience deep drowsiness, you will not be unconscious, but will remain drowsy for the rest of the day. You will need to make arrangements for someone to drive you to and from the appointment. Our patients who experience extreme anxiety or who have extensive dental procedures find IV sedation a great option for a tranquil dental experience.
